Checking protondb, apparently using proton ge 9-7 fixes it.

    @thasreal can't be specifically a Proton issue, I was able to reproduce this on an RTX 3080 with Windows 10 a while back. It seems to be a bug in the game itself.

    The softlock occurs not just on the demo screen, but on any and all cutscenes that play in video format that force the rest of the game to unload. Strangely, this excludes the "captain's last words" cutscene that happens...

    Confused why it doesn't crash if I press start then back out to the title screen on the main menu, then let it run through the attract mode demo though
