You need Nvidia 384.69 or greater, 381.22 will not work. You need vulkan to be working with that driver. I do not know what is wrong with your system that this is not working for you, but until you get that fixed SteamVR is not going to work. @Balderick - that switch works on Windows but on Linux we always use direct mode if it is available (and it should be available if you have the right nvidia ...
