Halo Infinite suffers from intermittent stuttering even when it runs at stable 120 FPS (@ 8.3ms) using lowest settings /or/ average 95 FPS (@ ~10.4ms) with highest graphical settings.

This issue is mostly prevalent in outdoor setting where there's a skybox (large 3D scene) and it's widely reported on ProtonDB

Could you check if anything have changed with latest master? A rebar related config have recently been added for this game to help with the very long loading times. You can find a download of latest master as of now here https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/actions/runs/5891718205

If this didn't always happen it might also be worth to try https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/24774 and/or what is mentioned in this comment: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/9189#note_1986874

Very nice finds! Unfortunately this is a active issue since I've tried Halo Infinite for the first time on Linux, probably around November of 2022.

So far I know this happens on Gentoo, OpenSuSE Tumbleweed and Arch Linux.

Thanks for the suggestion @Blisto91. I just updated everything to latest git and tried

The stuttering still persists, I've verified that this happens with

Walking around the map in Halo Infinite greatly reduces lag spikes and stuttering (but not completely) until the next round. Seems like shaders is a part of the issue. I know projects like DXVK-Async can skip draws before shaders are generated to avoid stuttering. Can anything similar be done here? Maybe @HansKristian-Work can share some of his infinite wisdom 🙂?

This seems to be greatly improved for me with recent builds of vkd3d-proton. I haven't felt the urge to bisect to figure out which commit(s) it was, but I suspect it was the improvements for sparse resources.
