If i try to use VKD3D for Red Dead Redemption on Windows, it will give me an error saying my Graphics Card does not have at least 2GB of VRAM

Image

My Graphics Card has 8 Gigabytes of VRAM. This is the only DX12 title to have this issue when running it with VKD3D
This title does not support Vulkan Natively
I have also tried using the "VKD3D_CONFIG" and also "dxvk.conf" file filtered to use only the RTX 4060 GPU
Also set it to use the RTX 4060 in Windows Graphics settings

Also using DXVK's "dxgi.dll" file in order for software to be able to start and function alongside VKD3D (If i try and start other things without that file they crash)

System information

  • GPU: RTX 4060
  • Driver: 576.02
  • VKD3D-Proton version: 2.14.1

This game is known to work on Proton.

It's entirely expected that Windows doesn't work properly, especially if the game uses 20 different APIs to query GPU-related stuff instead of just sticking to DXGI.

Also, you probably get better performance with Native DX12 than vkd3d-proton with nvidia GPUs.

Maybe so, i just wanted to see how VKD3D would perform. VKD3D did improve performance for some other DX12 titles on my system
This title is the only one that won’t start when trying to use VKD3D

To elaborate a bit more, there's a chance that a) one of the dlls doesn't get loaded (extremely common issue on Windows) or b) the game just requires vendor libraries like nvapi to work properly, which again is impossible on Windows.

It's not very useful for us to spend time investigating these issues when there's a 99.5% chance it's completely unfixable on our end anyway.

Just going to close this as wontfix. No point spending time on something that we don't support.
