The root cause might be the same as #2963 but that reporter uses AMD and the discussion lead to some power related issues that ultimately didn't resolve the bug. I've experienced this issue multiple times over the past week. And just yesterday, I cleaned out my PC, re-seated my GPU and RAM and also applied new thermal paste to my CPU but problem still persists. I've also made a report to the developer (https://sandfallinteractive.typeform.com/coe33?typeform-source=steamcommunity.com). If I can provide any other info or test any other settings, please let me know.

Driver: NVIDIA 610.43.02
Wine version: wine-cachyos 11.0 (Proton: cachyos-11.0-20260602-slr)

Description
Steam command: PROTON_LOG=1 VKD3D_DEBUG=fixme,err game-performance %command%

Two GPU MMU faults are recorded in the kernel log during gameplay:

Jul 04 00:10:33 — Xid 31, pid=21052, name=GameThread, ENGINE GRAPHICS HUBCLIENT_FE faulted @ 0x0_a9000000, FAULT_PDE / ACCESS_TYPE_VIRT_WRITE
Jul 04 00:49:42 — Xid 31, pid=24122, name=GameThread, ENGINE GRAPHICS HUBCLIENT_FE faulted @ 0x0_fec00000, FAULT_PDE / ACCESS_TYPE_VIRT_WRITE

The Proton log shows a matching failure inside vkd3d-proton itself. At internal timestamp 35709.024–35709.029, a burst of errors appears:

err:vkd3d-proton:vkd3d_wait_for_gpu_timeline_semaphore: Failed to wait for Vulkan timeline semaphore, vr -4.
err:vkd3d-proton:d3d12_command_queue_execute: Failed to submit queue(s), vr -4.
err:vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_wait_semaphore: Failed to wait for present semaphore, vr -4.
err:vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_submit_blit: Failed to submit swapchain blit, vr -4.
err:vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_present_signal_blit_semaphore: Failed to submit present discard, vr = -4.

vr -4 is VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST

Try with Nvidia 595.84 drivers. 610 doesn't support descriptor heap well.

Quick update, thanks for the suggestion.

Might need to knock on wood but setting all the graphic options to low with DLSS at quality, I have been able to play 3 sessions that were around 3 hours long each without crashing. This included overworld traversal, overworld battles and also the same within specific locations (but the overworld activities were always the main triggers).

This probably isn't worth the maintainer's time so feel free to close.
