Please describe your issue

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 consistently crashes a few seconds after reaching the main menu.

The game starts normally and renders the main menu. After approximately 3–5 seconds (even without any user interaction), the game freezes and the in-game crash handler appears.

The issue is 100% reproducible.

Each crash produces the following kernel message:

NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:0b:00): 13
Graphics Exception: Class 0000c797

The issue reproduces on both KDE Plasma Wayland and KDE Plasma X11.

I have already tested:

  • Proton Experimental (experimental-11.0-20260724c)
  • Proton Hotfix (hotfix-20260727-d4)
  • Deleted Proton prefix
  • Deleted Steam shader cache
  • Verified game files
  • Wayland and X11
  • No MangoHud
  • No Gamescope
  • No vkBasalt
  • No custom Proton environment variables

This is happening for me also:

Kernel 7.1.8-1-cachyos
proton-cachyos-11.0-20260703 (slr) / Proton Hotfix / Proton Experimental
NVIDIA 610.57.04

GE-Proton11-5 resolves the issue above, but game crashes on load. Managed to get it working by using the older GE-Proton9-4.
