Hello @Berserker1402, my understanding is that this isn't a feature provided by Proton (and being tracked at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/5766 from Steam's perspective). If a third party launcher has wired up something similar, that should be evaluated by the maintainers of the third party launcher.
@kisak-valveI mentioned third-party launchers because they use Proton as their compatibility layer, just like its most well-known forks, such as Proton-GE and Proton-CachyOS. While the functionality for adding and launching an additional executable may be implemented by the launcher itself, the execution layer it relies on is still Proton, which is why I thought this would be an appropriate place to raise the issue.
The developers of these third-party launchers cannot directly modify or interfere with the Proton libraries or components responsible for launching these processes. Furthermore, the fact that this functionality works correctly when using Proton 10 but stops working starting with Proton 11 is what leads me to believe that the underlying issue is with Proton rather than with the launcher itself.
If there is a more appropriate place where I should raise this issue, I would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. My intention is not to blame the launcher, but rather to find the correct place to report what appears to be a regression related to Proton.
Hello. I would like to report an issue with a feature that stopped working in the latest versions of Proton 11.
Additional executables that are added to run inside a specific game's prefix through popular launchers such as Heroic, Faugus, and similar tools no longer work at all. The main game launches correctly, but the additional executable does not start.
This feature is very important to many people, so I hope this issue can be taken into consideration and that there is a way to fix it.
I am fairly certain that the problem is related to the latest Proton versions, because if I go back to an older version, specifically Proton 10, the additional executables run inside the prefix without any problems and work as expected.
If someone could look into this issue or point me to the correct place to report it, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you very much!
