Hi, I bought another AMD RX580 after the previous RX580 had died. (on August 6,7 or 8)
After the replacement of the GPU, Steam games crashed, and the entire graphics output of my system would stop working, leaving magenta-colored artifacts all over the screen.
It occurred very often.

I think I have found a solution for now.
I first found a title on which this glitch happened very often: My Cuckqueen Girlfriend (DEMO)
And then, I was lucky and did one experiment; I've had no crashes so far after I switched from Proton Experimental to Proton Hotfix

The system is Ubuntu 26.04, and here's the output of uname -a (except the hostname):
Linux 7.0.0-29-generic [#29](/issue/ValveSoftware/Proton/29)-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Jul 17 20:52:35 UTC 2026 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The new GPU was: Axle Radeon RX580 8GB GDDR5. (The previous one I was using was Gigabyte Radeon RX580 8GB GDDR5)
The Build ID of Proton Experimental was: 24576693

Best Regards.

Hello @wind0204, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the crash, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please copy the contents of Steam Runtime Diagnostics from Steam (Steam -> Help -> Steam Runtime Diagnostics) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

I could not reproduce the crash today, probably because Proton Experimental had been updated to 24794197
I guess I can try to type a download_depot command and lock it in order to go back to the previous version, but I don't know which manifest id I should use. Can somebody tell me which manifest I should use?

Also, I forgot to document two more clues about this bug:
(a) This crash has been occurring only on 2D games, but to be fair I haven't played many 3D games these days
(b) and that it has occurred on the steam client's UI, even without any game running at the same time. (After the first occasion of this I've been almost always playing games with the steam client window closed)

Oh, and this has happened once today

Oops, it seems I can't lock the version of the program I downloaded with download_depot, Could I?

I guess Steam was not the origin of the issue.
For the first time, the crash of video output occurred while watching Youtube on Firefox today.
