Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: The Witcher 3 - The Wild Hunt - Remastered
  • Steam AppID of the game: 292030

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.

Symptoms

NVIDIA features seem to be unavailable, preventing usage of:

  • Hairworks
  • Ray Tracing
  • DLSS
  • Frame Gen

What's also strange is that Geralt's hair doesn't seem to render, leaving him bald like Majordomo here:

His baldness persists within the inventory menu:

Hairwork settings are available, but it doesn't make a difference whether it's on or off:

Plus ray tracing and DLSS settings are unavailable. The toast in the bottom-left of this image appears when pressing right to switch the Anti-aliasing option to DLSS:

I've not had luck with env vars, PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 and PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 didn't help unfortunately.

Reproduction

  1. Launch the game
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Video -> Graphics
  3. Turn off ray tracing if not already off
  4. Turn on ray tracing
  5. Do the same with other NVIDIA featured settings

Hello @NotYourAlejandro, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/607#issuecomment-5893280981.

Also a wide variety of AMD hardware not working properly for Witcher 3 - remastered. Allegedly NVIDIA things not working on proton is intentional.
