Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 3: TWISTED REFLECTION
  • Steam AppID of the game: 2852190

System Information

  • GPU: Qualcomm Adreno 830
  • Video driver version: Mesa Turnip 26.2.2
  • Vulkan: 1.4
  • System build: 20260930 (nightly), built Sep 30 2026
  • Architecture: ARM64
  • Proton version: Proton 11.0 (ARM64)
  • Translation layer: FEX

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

The game consistently crashes during startup.

The Proton log shows the crash occurring while creating a Vulkan compute pipeline:

err:vulkan:vkCreateComputePipelines Exception 0xc0000005 in Unix call.

Immediately before this, Wine reports:

handle_syscall_fault code=c0000005 flags=0 addr=(nil)

There are also repeated FEX messages around the failure:

Exception: Code: 80000002
Handled unaligned atomic

The Vulkan driver in use is Mesa Turnip on the Adreno 830.

As a diagnostic test, I disabled FEX KernelUnalignedAtomicBackpatching, but the game still crashed with the same vkCreateComputePipelines / 0xc0000005 failure. I restored the original FEX configuration afterwards.

I can reproduce the crash consistently.

Reproduction

  1. Launch MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 3: TWISTED REFLECTION (AppID 2852190) using Proton 11.0 (ARM64).
  2. Allow the game to proceed through startup.
  3. The game crashes during startup.
  4. The Proton log reports a 0xc0000005 exception from vkCreateComputePipelines.

Hello @RationalRepublic, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9581#issuecomment-5980342716.
