Symptoms

Every time a specific Shugo Festival Minigame starts the game freezes then crashes with RenderingThread.cpp

LowLevelFatalError [File:D:\TCA\VCS\git\Engine\Source\Runtime\RenderCore\Private\RenderingThread.cpp] [Line: 1313] GameThread timed out waiting for RenderThread after 120.00 secs

Reproduction

Enter one of the Shugo Festival Minigames marked as Crashes on the hour, wait for the start timer to end, game should freeze.

Activity Status
Jump Jump Works as expected
Wraith Evasion Works as expected
Mysterious Track Crashes
Hidden Lugi Unknown
Odyle Flight Frenzy Works as expected
Goldrin's Treasure Works as expected
Defend Shugo Merchants Crashes
Up! Up! Up! Works as expected
Not This Tile? Works as expected

I did also noticed the same crashes in the open world a few days ago after a game update, a PC reboot resolved that issue..

  • Tested with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 and PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0.
  • Tested without steam overlay and MangoHud.
  • Tested with lower settings, but not minimal video settings.
  • Tested deleting Mesa Shaders.
  • Frame Generation is Disabled.
  • Tested changing from FSR to TAA, crashed 26 seconds before event start
  • Tested -dx11, AION 2 does not support DX11 Unable to launch with RHI 'DirectX 11' since the project is not configured to support it.

Potential fix

  • Turning effects to very low resolved the issue

TODO:

  • Turning all settings to very low
  • 60 fps cap
  • Lowering resolution

For some reason it survived for a minute after troubleshooting with PROTON_LOG=1...
Booted the game at 17:58, entered the minigame lobby 18:01, minigame started 18:03 (as it always does), and then crashed at 18:04..

edit:
Run 2 crashed 26 before event start.. So its inconsistent.

Clicking on the audio/mic icon when in a party crashes the game as well with the same kernel32.dll log.

@OfficialEsco Hi there and thank you for the report. Does the issue also occur with Proton Experimental? The various Proton forks aren't supported on this tracker.

SSplendidAlakey 2026-10-14 github

Yes it does.

To recreate it faster than Shugo:

  1. Launch the game and create a party
  2. Click on the sound icon above the party
  3. Crash

9070 XT, have tried with Proton Experimental, latest GE, latest DW. I get the same error after a few minutes of moving around. Turning the effects to very low resolved nothing. Disabling the steam overlay appears to have resolved the issue?
