I'm experiencing a severe mouse input issue in Cyberpunk 2077 when running it through Steam Proton on Arch Linux.
When I move the mouse while pressing or holding keyboard movement keys (such as WASD), the camera may jerk, snap toward the lowest possible position, freeze, or stop responding correctly. This makes the game difficult to play.
The issue appears related to how mouse and keyboard input interact, but I haven't confirmed the underlying cause.
System information
OS: Arch Linux
Kernel: Linux 7.2.9-zen1-1-zen
CPU: Intel Core i7-13650HX
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, with Intel integrated graphics
NVIDIA driver: 615.78.08
Steam: 1.0.0.87-3
Desktop environment: Hyprland (Wayland)
Steps to reproduce
Launch Cyberpunk 2077 through Steam using Proton.
Enter the game and move the mouse to control the camera.
Move the mouse while pressing or holding movement keys, such as W, A, S, or D.
Observe the camera jerking, snapping downward, or failing to respond normally.
Troubleshooting attempted
Tested different Proton versions.
Tested under Hyprland (Wayland), KDE (Wayland), and i3 (X11); the issue persisted.
Adjusted mouse sensitivity and acceleration settings.
Tried Steam launch options related to SDL controller detection and Wine's Wayland driver.
None of these attempts resolved the issue.
Expected behavior
The camera should respond smoothly to mouse movement while keyboard keys are pressed, without sudden camera movement or input loss.
Actual behavior
Combining mouse movement with keyboard input causes abnormal camera movement or loss of normal camera control.
I was directed by Steam Support to report this issue to Proton.
I haven't confirmed the exact cause or whether the issue originates in Proton, the game, or the Linux input stack.
