System information

  • Game: State of Survival
  • Steam AppID: 2485460
  • Game version: 1.27.100.2229
  • Linux distribution: CachyOS
  • Kernel: 7.2.7-1-cachyos
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Ivy Bridge)
  • Mesa: 26.2.4-arch3.1
  • Proton: Hotfix 20261007 (also tested Experimental)
  • Steam launch executable: PC-Launcher.exe
### Description

The FunPlus launcher starts successfully, but launching the actual game opens a black window before crashing or returning to the launcher.

The problem is reproducible, including after recreating the Proton prefix and verifying the Steam installation.

Crash details

The Proton log consistently reports:

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005)
FPXGame.dll + 0xF5C8

Exception information:

info[0] = 0x0
info[1] = 0x10
RBX     = 0x0

Disassembly at the crash address:

mov rax, QWORD PTR [rbx+0x10]

This confirms a null pointer dereference inside FPXGame.dll.

Earlier in the same function, the DLL calls IPHLPAPI.DLL!GetAdaptersAddresses, then processes adapter-related structures. The relationship between that API call and the null pointer has not yet been established conclusively.

Workarounds tested

  • Proton Experimental and Proton Hotfix
  • Fresh Proton prefix
  • Steam file verification (14,615 files verified)
  • PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
  • PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1
  • PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1
  • Temporarily disabling IPv6
  • Temporarily disabling the disconnected Ethernet interface

None resolved the crash.

DXVK initialization also fails on this older GPU, but switching to WineD3D removes that error without fixing the FPXGame.dll exception.

Expected behavior

The game should proceed past the launcher and display its main menu.

Actual behavior

The game repeatedly crashes during initialization.

Questions for maintainers

  1. Is there a known compatibility issue involving FPXGame.dll and IPHLPAPI.GetAdaptersAddresses?
  2. Could Wine return adapter information that triggers this null pointer dereference?
  3. Is there an existing Proton workaround or patch for this title?

Hello @adelinoaal1974, unfortunately, the Vulkan driver for your generation of GPU is incomplete and does not provide a spec-compliant implementation. It's generally not supportable by Proton. Additionally, while it's sometimes useful for troubleshooting, using PROTON_USE_WINED3D is not considered supported.
