The game is perfectly stable. I experienced heavy fluctuation of the framerate (at times incredibly smooth, others very jumpy), and that in all possible video presets (from very low to ulta). Besides that all visual effects were there, loading autosaves worked and there were no glitches whatsoever. It looks breathtakingly beautiful.

  • Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (64 bit 4.15.0-33-generic)
  • GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 (396.54)
  • Proton Beta 3.7-5

I can't get this game to launch, it shows a "loading" screen then crashes out.
Same thing happens on both Proton 3.7 and 3.7-5.

Theres a "fix" for AMD users experiencing the crash on launch with commit 422cf71.

Until this gets rolled into the next Proton update you can manually apply the fix by following the instructions here.

With 3.16-4, I can't launch the game (it crashes during the loading screen), but with 3.7-8, it works without any problem. It seems it's because I've got an nvidia card (GTX960) and with the latest version of proton, the nvidia cards are reported as AMD. Since this game has problems with AMD cards, it's not working.
If I add a file dxvk.conf in SteamApps/common/The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux/EthanCarter/Binaries/Win64 containing the following lines, it works with proton 3.16-4.
dxgi.customDeviceId = 1401
dxgi.customVendorId = 10DE

Hello @Skiski, with 3.16 and no dxvk.conf, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

It is rather huge (15Mo).

The game ships an amd_ags_x64 DLL, which tries to load some other internal AGS libraries. Eventually it crashes trying to jump to NULL.

I have issue with mouse input induced frame time spikes. Game is stable, and no artifcats, but mouse input causing frame time spikes, make it unplayable.

Proton Experimental (7.0-100), Radeon RX 6900 XT, AMDGPU, RADV, Mesa 22.2.0-rc3. MATE desktop (X11).

When in game, playing or paused, or in main menu, anytime I move the mouse, the frametimes go from 8ms to 200ms. If I move the mouse constantly, the game completely freezes, until I stop moving the mouse. This is with DXVK_HUD=full. Nothing interesting in the steam / terminal output.

I played non-Redux version few years ago, and it was working flawlessly.
