This game uses GameGuard. An anti-cheat system that bans linux. Probably it won't work even in the future (unless the company remove or change the protection system).

I'm encountering this issue now too when trying to play Ragnarok via Steam. I'm pretty sure Ragnarok has used GameGuard since forever ago and I've been able to run it via WINE before.
Actually I don't think it even uses it anymore. i checked the directory and the GameGuard files are no longer there. So I think this is unrelated to an anti-cheat system...
in case anyone wants to run this, you need to create a 32bit wine prefix, install vcrun2008 and ie8 with wine, run the setup.exe and then run the game. found this here: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=34731
@huberb this is for running in wine? or will the wine tweak magically fix the steam+proton version? :) will definitely try
I actually installed Ragnarok straight from the Steam page and it worked out of the box then. I just replaced WPLauncher.exe with this custom one that bypasses the WarpPortal account creation thing which prompts the user on first run and there's no way to skip around.

@freed00m I just made a batch file that had start Ragnarok.exe and Googled "convert .bat file to exe" and uploaded my script there. Then renamed it to WPLauncher.exe maybe that's why it's raising flags. I didn't think to scan it since I'm running it on Linux anyway

So far, it hasn't given me any problems and I play Ragnarok without issue
@sprite-1 I end up using lutris, with the winetrick ie8 and vcrun2008, that works, shame i don't know how to get those two packages to proton steam
