Game does not work on steam deck using the latest version of Proton Experimental, the game seems to launch to a black screen for like 5 seconds, then it quietly exits out.

Can confirm from testing that proton version 4.11-13 and 6.3-8 can get to the title screen on deck (the latter version even playing the menu music), Testing proton versions past that was when the issue started up.

Tested on 6.3-8 as well if you want to compare what's going on in the logs

Hello @waspennator, can you also note how Proton 7.0 behaves to explicitly narrow the time frame of the regression?

Actually I retested it again on my end and now it doesn't seem to be happening anymore, dunno if my brute force testing fixed it or not. Beforehand it would just show a black screen and then silently exits out, but now it's actually loading normally on proton Experimental and I have no idea why.

Might need testing from someone else to confirm.

Edit: Scratch that, I booted it up on windows to check again and on deck afterwards, it went back to the black screen on first launch, but loaded up on the second, seems like now it will break on the black screen if you try and run it with "PROTON_LOG=1 %command", also the game seems to freeze up entirely if you let the music try to loop like in the garage.

Edit 2: Upon further testing, Proton 7.0-5 let's the game boot with the log command on my end but not proton Experimental, the bgm loop freeze still happens there, so I can provide a log for it.

While I haven't been able to replicate the crash when trying to start up using experimental. I've played through for the last week or so and noticed 2 things. Sometimes after a couple of minutes of gameplay., the game will randomly crash silently on me, but I can't exactly narrow down whats happening since it usually only happens one out of two times I play it.

The second is the game music freezing the game when it tries looping, which makes the longer levels (Like level 7) impossible to play through before the music ends and loops, spamming this in the logs.

Update, retested with Proton Experimental, 8.0-2 and 7.0-6 and the game is once again back to loading to a black screen before crashing back to the game page, either it was a lucky fluke that it worked when I last tested it or something regressed. I can also confirm that the game still launches normally on my windows laptop.

Edit: Game really seems to go on and off when it works, it is running now as of the latest Experimental, but still freezes if the music tries looping.

Still a problem on the oled deck with latest proton experimental, only way to play the game is to mute the music, otherwise it freezes the game as soon as it tries to loop.
