Hi @kisak-valve,

first of all, thank you so much for your efforts sorting through these issues here!

Also, please do tell the team that Proton is awesome and impressive, it's been the kind of Steam client addition I have been waiting for and it's great that it's being done by Valve.

But could you please explain to the users how Valve expects us to use Proton and/or how the Whitelisting process is going to work in the future?

For unofficial non-whitelisted games like, say, my beloved Lego Star Wars, should I wait until Proton settings fixes are distributed through the Steam client? Or should I put fixes like in #524 into my local user-specific settings and be done with it? What will happen if I use local settings and the Steam client's game-specific settings are updated some time in the future?

For whitelist candidates, what is the official testing process? I guess that the user-submitted "works for me" issues here on Github are not enough by a longshot. Is there an actual queue of whitelisting candidates and their status?

Is a publisher required to cooperate with Valve to whitelist a game? I have told some indie publishers that their games work fine with Proton on my machine and they were very happy to hear it, but will they have additional work with the platform?

Will we ever see whitelisted games that have been (quasi-)abandoned by the publisher? Using Lego Star Wars as an example again, fixing platform-driver-related bugs after the game release seems to be a low priority, yet it would make a great Proton candidate.

Sorry for all these meta questions, but it would be awesome to hear from you and your team. Thanks!

Also: When we beta users suggest a whitelist candidate, will we ever learn the status of the whitelisting process? Will we get feedback if the whitelisting has been rejected and why?

Nothing extracted yet.
