I am sorry, I have to disagree. For me and several others the game crashes at startup with Proton.

It seems to work with Nvidia or possibly with newer drivers. See compatibility comments here:

Hello @crabel, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report. Additionally, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

My hypothesis that it works with Nvidia drivers is wrong, since I tried it now on the laptop with the same result. Gist and Logfile are from there. I can also upload a log with an AMD card + Mesa drivers if that helps.

I this case the game's minimum specs have DirectX 11 and you are forced to use a legacy series of nvidia driver. DXVK / Vulkan is not available to you and you may also be hitting one or more driver bugs in the legacy branch.

There's a chance you may have better luck with PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% in the game's launch options.

Thanks for the info. At least for me, the setting doesn't help.

Just for info: The crashes are gone, not sure if this was due to a game or a proton update.
But:
ALT+TAB freezes the whole system. Not only the game, but I have to reset (Didn't try to connect to the computer per ssh, maybe it would be sufficient to kill the game). In windowed mode, it's even worse. The moment, the mouse cursor moves out of the game window, everything freezes.
