Changing shader quality in the settings crashes the game.
Hello @mallgrab, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report. Also, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.
Nevermind I just tried using Proton 3.16-6 Beta.
Does not crash when changing shaders like it used to in 3.7-6.
I'm still experiencing an instant crash when setting the shaders above Minimum on Proton 7.0-2
This issue appears to be specific to AMD GPUs, looking at ProtonDB and asking around.

Shader settings still seem to crash the game back to library on my oled deck if I set it to anything above minimum. Given that the deck is powered by AMD hardware, that's the reason why.
Seems like something happens around here.
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in wow64 32-bit code (0x00000000).
Shaders still crashes the game on anything above minimum on my oled with latest steamos stable.
Still crashes on latest stable steamos version
@tarceri Sorry for the ping, but I was wondering if you could make a report for this on the mesa gitlab, I don't see any reports for it there, game specifically crashes on amd gpus with any shader settings above minimum

I haven't seen any report for this either. Will take a look :)

EDIT - Seemed that Steam or Flatpak was falling back to llvmpipe. It worked flawlessly after restarting Steam which used the Nvidia drivers. Please substitute Nvidia with Mesa's llvmpipe (Specifically llvmpipe (LLVM 19.1.7, 256 bits)).
I've gotten the same page fault error on Nvidia, except it's on startup before any config files get created. Seems that using Proton 5.0-10 fixed it on startup, however the shader issue exists, with setting it above minimum crashes when graphics load. So I'm not sure Nvidia is completely immune from it.
GPU: GTX 1650 SUPER (575.57.08)
Distro: Fedora Workstation 42 (Flatpak)
@tarceri Retested now that steamos 3.8 has hit stable, game still seems to crash unless i tone down the shaders
Workaround for now is to set mesa_extension_override="+GL_EXT_geometry_shader4" the workaround should land in mesas workarounds file soon

Can confirm that workaround seems to finally allow me to play the game with shaders set to anything above minimum, thanks
Fix has landed in 26.1.6, all issues should be gone once steam deck updates to it.
