Reproduction

Activate all advanced options in Steam Play download the game and then hit Play game crashes immediately after saying running.

Is there any way that we can troubleshoot this further and potentially come up with a fix?

Not sure what running in compatibility mode for XP does specifically but that seems like where we can start.

Steam version of game doesn't launch

Manually run installers and set compatibility Mode

  • Go to (path-to-game).
  • Run GalCiv1_steam_setup.exe.
  • Choose Yes if a security prompt appears.
  • Go to (path-to-game)\GalCiv.
  • Run register_dart.exe.
  • Choose Yes if a security prompt appears.
  • Choose OK or Ignore at any installer prompts.
  • Go to (path-to-game)\AltarianProphecy.
  • Set GalCiv.exe to run in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode.

Due to the expired digital certificate in the register_dart.exe executable, Windows refuses to run it. Use delcert on it to remedy this.
