For me, it got to the intro and looked like right as it was about to show the menu, it crashed.
I had a crash with latest Steam if I used my native runtime. Restarted with the Steam runtime and it now runs fine again. Did you try that?
I'm running with defaults, I'm assuming that means the Steam runtime (and Ubuntu 18.04).
Hello @d10sfan, your log appears to be for a different game than what is being tracked in this issue report.
Ah sorry, I put this in the wrong ticket. It should be Halo Spartan Strike (Id 324570). Halo Spartan Assault works perfectly.
I've created a new ticket here: #621
It is working on Debian 10
My Specs:
Distro Debian 10
Driver: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce GTX 1070 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
Driver Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 390.77
Desktop: Mate
Installed everything from Debian repository or default, I have not added any extra config or parameter.
Here is the link to my Steam system info:

Does not work for me on recent Proton Experimental versions. Just a black screen.
Here a recent system info dump: https://gist.github.com/sankasan/d7718b30c94a10b7e97167f07847db76
Update: Also tested with Proton 5.13-6 as ProtonDB has a few recent positive reports. Result is the same black screen as on Proton Experimental.
Hello @sankasan, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the hang on a black screen, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)
Thanks @sankasan, just a guess, but does setting the game's launch options to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% have an effect?
Tried it doesn't change the outcome. Attached a new log with this variable set.
steam-277430.log
@sankasan While poking around Steam forums, I found this. Might be worth a shot. I was also having the same issue which led me here, but I found that before I dumped logs and moved on.
EDIT: Warning for those who come along looking for it. This will completely erase any previous data you had. Prepare to start over from the beginning.
@sapphic-wallflower, this worked for me as well. Thanks for sharing!

Surprised by how well this one runs! Flawless as far as I can tell.
