Hi @z0z0z, would you like to re-test the game with Proton 4.2-1, and upload a fresh Proton log? It would probably help to have a fresh log to look at.
@zzhiyi What do you make of this? Do you think this is a quartz / wmv cutscene related issue? This might be a relevant line from the Proton 3.16 log:
2601.173:0008:0069:err:quartz:GetClassMediaFile Media class not found
Most likely video codecs issue.
@HonkingGoose I can't make one for this game, cause I can't waste more internet bandwidth, but I made one for an enhanced version of this game here (their cores are the same, only the latter have more features, so it should be relevant). Unsurprisingly, it's indeed codecs issue.
EDIT: I made the log with Proton 4.2-3. I can't see any mentions of quartz, but I'm seeing mentions of mfplat. Huh.
Clean log from first run on 4.11-2, no tweaks in place and no usage of feral gamemode or protonfixes:
steam-347830.log
Tried with both Proton 7.0-4 and Experimental, can't change the display mode to windowed or borderless, game dissapeared if you choose one of that options.
In Experimental, the game suffers more bugs such as audio from cutscenes don't play, ubuntu crashing if you change the primary display.
steam-347830.log
Thanks for the report. The game window disappearing when you choose borderless or windowed should be fixed in upstream dxvk now 🙂

System Information
I confirm:
steam-347830.log
Symptoms
Game fails to start. It outputs a black screen and crashes immediately.
Reproduction
Try to start game.
Other thoughts
Doesn't work in regular wine either. Setting PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 doesn't make a difference.
Installing quartz through winetricks makes the window stay open, but it's a frozen empty window that accepts no input.
Sad thing is this game apparently used to work according to WineHQ.
