This is about 7 Wonders of the Ancient World (275810) and not 7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover (223000).

The error is caused by missing DirectMusic that can be installed with the following command:

  • protontricks 275810 --force -q directmusic
  • protontricks 275810 winecfg (Display > Enable Virtual Desktop > 800x600)

The game works fine and has even better performances with PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%. There is however an issue where the mouse area is cut off at the top of the window, the mouse cannot go there for some reason. It's also not possible to move the desktop window otherwise the mouse cursor will be offset.

I can confirm, installing directmusic and the game launches. I didn't need to enable virtual desktop, however in fullscreen the window does not expand over the whole screen, it's more like maximized window.

The game works fine and has even better performances with PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%.

This can only be placebo, as the game uses DirectX 6 and not 9.

Update:

It seems adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to launch options made game work??? Please someone confirm that! installing DirectMusic through protontricks still required!

So some time passed, I've got the game and following protontricks steps suggested earlier do not help.
Proton version: Experimental

After installing directmusic:

After enabling virtual desktop, game doesn't say anything nor winecfg open now.

00f8:err:winediag:nodrv_CreateWindow Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
00f8:err:winediag:nodrv_CreateWindow L"The explorer process failed to start."

Big sad, I wanted to play games of childhood :frowning_face:
