Sadly, there's too often log entries that look like problems but aren't - you can put anything into the log and even make nothing look like an error. It looks like this one is just something that may not have any bearing on the audio issues here. Different game, person says sound not an issue with same entry.
fixme:dsound:IDirectSoundBufferImpl_AcquireResources (0x30f2d98,00000000,0,(nil)): stub, faking success
These 2 lines are spammed a lot, the later might be a bit different than I posted, but I see a lot IDirectSound lines
Sounds arent an issue. Or haven't been.

I know its a total pain.
Audio output seems to be functional as of Proton 3.15-5 beta. A bit glitchy, but very promising. Audio sometimes desyncs and becomes scratchy and distorted over time, the latter issue can be mitigated by placing PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command% in the launch options.
Sound seems mostly fine on steam deck. But when you fight the helicopter at the start, it seems to crash consistently, when you get the cutscene after defeating it.
I can confirm using Proton Experimental on my oled, as soon as I shoot down the helicopter with the rocket launcher, the game silently crashes a few seconds into the cutscene. Though after I booted it up again, and played from my last save point (before the helicopter), it didn't crash.
I am noticing now that if you try to manually load into a chapter (finish the prologue, then load game then select prologue or exposure), the game will also silently crash. Dunno if it's related to the helicopter crash, but i have to drop down to 7.0-6 to fix it, the crash occurs on proton 8.0-5 and continues to experimental.
Update, if I try it with "DXVK_CONFIG="d3d9.textureMemory = 0" %command%", that seems to fix the crashing if I manually try to select a chapter, so it seems like a dxvk issue
Dxvk with the fix has hit proton Experimental bleeding edge and can confirm it no longer crashes when you destroy the helicopter or loading new chapters from the load game menu, game should be ready to be tested for deck status once this hits regular proton Experimental

Symptoms
Audio playback is borked; the game seems unable to output any sound at all. No amount of fiddling with the game settings or dll overrides seems to fix it. Proton log repeats the following line:
fixme:dsound:IDirectSoundBufferImpl_AcquireResources (0x14be4ca0,00000000,0,(nil)): stub, faking success
Proton log here.
Reproduction
Install, and play game. Listen for audio playback.
