Symptoms

Game crashes when attempting to play single player/host your game. Joining another game does work however.

Reproduction

Run the game, if you have an existing character choose 'Continue'.

Notes

First of all, besides this issue the rest of the game functions as far as I can tell "perfectly". Which is great news, means if this little bug is squashed we could have a platinum game on our hands.

The game doesn't have distinct offline and online modes, whether you plan to play solo or with friends you choose the same option of 'Continue', which hosts a new instance of the game, and you choose after that if you want to invite friends. Issue could be possibly related to networking issues. The game runs fine when joining another online game, but trying to host a game yourself doesn't work.

It is worth noting you can force offline play by disconnecting from the internet before choosing 'Continue', and interestingly the game doesn't crash when you do this. So whatever the issue is, it seems to be related to network and only effects hosting.

The game still crashes when Steam is in Online Mode using the latest version of Proton (4.11-12). It will however work when in Offline Mode. Performances are also awful, best played with minimal graphics settings.

System Information

Distro:Void Linux
Kernel:5.4.32_1
RAM:16 GB
GPU Driver:NVIDIA 440.82
GPU:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core
Proton: 5.0-7

Symptoms

I had to disable the trackers under privacy options, as some folks on protondb pointed out, to get it to not crash. From there on it runs just fine, performance wise.

There is some audio crackling. It is worse in the menu, but present everywhere. I'll try to investigate, but i had no luck so far.

Symptoms

Hello! Getting crashes under Proton 5.0-7 at the moment, but oddly, it was working flawlessly until just now, this evening (10:26 PM PST at the moment). Not sure if a new Proton version was pushed out recently? I don't see anything in my list of completed downloads, but the game works fine (though it seems like it might not have as performant of a renderer implementation?) under Proton 4.11-13.

Hello @SolarLune, Proton 5.0-7 was released 13 days ago. Please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the crash, and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

Apologies for not giving a log previously. When I came back to try again today, running GZ under 4.11-13 crashed. I switched over to the default (which should be Proton 5.0-7 again), and the crash disappeared; the game is back to running fine.

I'm unsure of what's causing the problem, but will be monitoring it and will post again with the log when I can get a firmly reproducible test case.

Game fails to load with Proton 6.3-2. Gets stuck on a black screen and a relatively large proton log is created (38MB). Works fine in 5.13-6.

Hello @HanFox, it looks like the game is running on AMDVLK and separately, ~failing with a divide by zero~ there's an access violation (c0000005) earlier in the log where it could have derailed. Can you check how the game behaves when run with mesa/RADV?

Ah, not sure how it changed over to AMDVLK. As I don't use it I just removed it. Working fine with RADV. Thanks :+1:

Game is running fine, but I don't get any audio/voiceovers when picking up objects/getting audiologs.
Anyone else having this same issue or is the audio working for everyone?

According to some ProtonDB reports as well as my experience, the game immediately crashes on optimus laptops, it apparently doesn't select the right GPU and throws an error

Running fine with latest experimental proton (on Fedora 39 KDE-Spin running in X11-mode, with GeForce GTX 980Ti)
There is one marginal glitch: If Alt-Tabb'ing to/from Firefox, sometimes the FPS goes down from ~60FPS to ~5FPS.
After restarting the game, FPS is back to normal. AFAIK, this is due to the fact that FF uses vulkan for rendering as well.

It seems I'm getting lots of odd black discoloration on reflective objects with Proton 9.0-4, even with Screen-Space Reflections and SSAO disabled.
