Whitelist Request

  • Name of the game to be whitelisted: The Isle
  • Steam AppID of the game: 376210

System Information

  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070
  • Driver/LLVM version: Nvidia 415.27
  • Distro version: KDE Neon 5.15 (Also tested on Ubuntu 18.04)
  • Full System Report
  • Proton version: 4.2-2

I confirm:

  • [x] that pressing the Play button in the Steam client is sufficient.
  • [ ] that runtime config options are necessary to run the game.
  • [ ] that no workarounds other than PROTON_* env variables are necessary.

Issues

  • [ ] I haven't experienced any issues.
  • [x] There are no issues left open for this game.
  • [x] Although I consider the gaming experience equal to Windows there are remaining issues:
  • Sounds were buggy with Proton 3.7 (Both release and beta) and 3.16-4. Issues were not present in Proton 3.16-4 beta or 4.2-2.
  • Runs somewhat slower than on Windows, namely textures and models took longer to load in, however, there were no crashes or other issues with the game.

I'm a software engineer for The Isle, and with the recent Gold rating and positive feedback from Proton users I think it would be great to be whitelisted. We are primarily not releasing Linux builds at this time due to a single third-party dependency, but it is being worked on slowly.

JJJL772 2019-06-26 github

Glad to hear Linux support is coming, even if it's coming slowly. Hopefully it gets whitelisted, it works fantastically with proton, in fact it works better than some of the games that have actually been whitelisted.
Fantastic work on the game, by the way :)

@looterz Has the team tested the new update with Proton? I'm a little concerned about the game getting borked for us with so much being changed. Just bought the game yesterday so would be a shame if a breaking update drops within days of buying it :)

Llboklin 2020-06-14 github

I'm not getting (proper) controller input to work. I can use other bindings where the inputs are mapped to keyboard and mouse but the default does not work at all. Would be preferable to use analogue stick for smoother turning. Not sure whether this is only broken with Proton or not.

JJJL772 2020-06-14 github

I haven't tested the new update yet. What versions of proton did you test it with?
if it's broken on proton right now I will probably end up closing the issue.

Llboklin 2020-06-15 github

The new update isn't out yet so I'm hoping the devs might test it before pushing it out.

The EVRIMA update does not work in Proton 5.0-9.

Got as far as server list using Proton-5.5-GE-1 (which I happened to have lying around) after pressing escape to get rid of an initial black screen that would otherwise just stay.

Trying to join a server just freezes the game.

Ok so I tried Proton-4.11-13 and it works flawlessly as far as I can tell (as in no issues I don't expect to be present on Windows as well), but I don't know for sure that it's the Proton version and not just a fluke that it didn't work previously.

Edit:
It works with Proton-5.0-9, same as Proton-4.11-13. Either a game update fixed it or it was simply the will of the gods that didn't work just then.

?ghost 2020-06-19 github

I tried Evrima with Proton 5.09 - 4.11 - 4.29 both in Ubuntu 20.04 with Nvidia 440 drivers as well as
Debian 10 kernel 4.19 with Nvidia driver 418.

Nothing works. The game will not launch. It looks like it is font issue, game overlay, and VCRUNTIME140_1.dll missing and required by the .exe.

I have ttf-mscorefonts-installer package on both systems as well as vulkan drivers and everything needed to run the legacy version of the game flawlessly.

Here is my log @ Ubuntu pastebin

Not sure how to use protontricks in Debian or Ubuntu but now it's time to learn I guess. Maybe it has something to do with the fact some Windows users are having to extract a downloaded vcruntime140.dll into their game's directory.

I'm stuck and bummed out on this one as it is the only game I really play.

OK found the fix! Here's what I did

Navigated to:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/376210[or whatever number it is]/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32

made a link of vcruntime140.dll and moved it to:
/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/The Isle/TheIsle/Binaries/Win64

I then renamed the link to: vcruntime140.dll
and I made a copy, naming it: vcruntime140_1.dll

I launched the game with proton 5.09 and it works with similar performance as legacy did in Linux
(about 10 FPS less than in Windows)

Looks like your issue may not have been specific to Proton/Linux as it's listed in the common fixes on the Steam forums (although they suggest downloading the file).

https://www.protondb.com/app/376210 is there any news on when we might see EAC support in The Isle? :)

The Isle [Evrima beta branch] (376210)

Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6893.

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: The Isle [Evrima]
  • Steam AppID of the game: 376210

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Since the update to Unreal Engine 5, the game crashes with a shader compilation error when joining a server.

I also tried launching the game using the AMDVLK and AMDGPU-PRO drivers, but the game refused to start with a "DX12 is not supported on your system." error on both of those.

Reproduction

1, Make sure the Evrima beta branch is selected
2, Start game - May fail to load, but I don't believe that's a Proton-specific issue as it happens on my Windows 11 system too
3, Try joining any server

Fatal shader compilation error comes up, game closes

After a day or so of trying all the env vars I could think of, it seems that using RADV_DEBUG=nocompute can reliably get around the issue. I assume that completely disabling the compute queue isn't an ideal solution though, so based on that, is there anything else I could do to provide useful log information?

I've attached the log file for a couple minutes of gameplay when using RADV_DEBUG=nocompute

Happens for me too with NVIDIA GTX 1080 and proprietary drivers.

Hello, the game ran fine yesterday but now Proton got an update and now running the game on Experimental gives me a black screen. I can still hear the sounds and interact with the menu and so on. But I can't see anything.

I tried switching to Proton 9.0-2 and there I can see the game but I can't join the game because of Easy Anti Cheat problems.

Please fix this!

Hello @EyBmr, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the black screen, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please copy the contents of Steam Runtime Diagnostics from Steam (Steam -> Help -> Steam Runtime Diagnostics) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Sorry for my late response but after updating Proton, the game works with no issues again. So I guess the bug got fixed.
