When I try to run just cause 4 I get the error - Windows 7 sp1 with 'platform Updates for Windows 7' (or later version) is required to run this application. Use '--ignore_system_reqs' tp skip this check.

Skipping the check results in black screen then game closing.

On Windows 7, you need to download and install a file called Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64.msu
I don't know how to install it on PROTON.

Hello @Lord-Chronos, err: DxvkInstance::createInstance: Failed to create Vulkan instance in the log hints that you don't have a working vulkan driver. Please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Hello @Lord-Chronos, have you seen any issues with this game that would block it from being whitelisted?

CCSahajdacny 2019-11-12 github

After trying the game during the FREE weekend, I can tell that it is ready for to be WHITELISTED
While the game crash, is due to a game issue that affects Windows users too, and not because a PROTON problem.

Hi, Unfortunatly, for me the game freeze very often and after having played the game for about 20 hours ( thanx valve for those 20 hours :) ) I can't progress anymore because of the freezes . Very frustrating because otherwise perf is totally OK !

I also tested with the latest non experimental version and same behaviour.

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Just Cause 4 Reloaded
  • Steam AppID of the game: 517630

System Information

I confirm:

  • [X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
  • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.

Symptoms

For a first few minutes the game runs with good performance (60-70 FPS). But then it suddenly dips and begins to struggle to stay above 30 FPS, and it stays that way until I restart the game. Even on minimal graphical settings. So it seems that at some point something happens in software (Proton/DXVK) that cuts the performance in half. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, as evidenced by the game running smoothly initially.

Reproduction

I'm not sure what exactly triggers this performance hit. It doesn't seem to be anything specific. Sometimes it is after I close the map, sometimes when I travel a bit, or it can even happen when I stand at a single spot for a few minutes.

I attached logs from Proton Experimental below, since it's the version with latest fixes, but the same happens on 7.0-6, 8.0-3 and GE as well.

Do you have a pic with the DXVK HUD?..

Sure, here it is before the dip:
jc4_proton_before_fps_dip

And here's right after, you can see the FPS suddenly lowering in half on the graph:
jc4_proton_after_fps_dip

And here are Proton logs from this session, just in case.

So, I just downgraded the Nvidia driver to 525.89.02, and the problem doesn't appear anymore... Stable 60-70FPS all around. Seems like a regression in the driver?
