Proton 4.2-5 includes updated steamworks 1.44 api so the issue has been resolved.
The only remaining bug I personally encounter with the game is when quitting the game, it does not shut down, requiring me to run killall -9 'Super Animal Royale.exe'
Proton 4.11-3 does not handle a DS4 controller properly. The game in the previous version of Proton would show a generic controller icons (in-game). Now, it does indeed show it is a DS4 controller but the game is unplayable. The character goes left in a forever loop. I tried to rebind the controls and it came to a surprise that some buttons are not registered (such as L2).
The issue I mentioned is related to #3016 : Proton 4.11-3 breaks DualShock 4 controller input in multiple games.
honestly i was about to submit a whitelist request for this game using proton 4.11-8 felt like a native game
however i didn't test DualShock controller because i don't have one
but my xbox 360 wireless controller was just fine in this game
Game still crashes when quitting and have to force terminate the process. If there's any way this can get addressed that'd be stellar. :)

I have the same issue with proton 5.13
it was fine with proton 5.0
This game seems to be fully working now and has Steam Deck support.
The game crash on quit seems fixed with latest Steam Proton Experimental.
Honestly I pressed Install and did the game files stuff but it wont work goes to hamsterball screen and closes and thats it...
Regression in Proton experimental?
It works fine in Proton 9.0-4. But it doesn't work in Proton experimental (black screen after launch).
@usokawa While I couldn't exactly reproduce your issue, I was able to find a regressive issue in regards to video playback with Proton Experimental. I found that the intro dev splash screens are ending early. I am hoping that when we get a fix in for this issue, that your issue would also be resolved but there is no guarantee that it would be. Once we have a fix in, do you mind if I ask you to check again to see if it is resolved?
@AJuujarvi Yes of course! Thanks for the info!
@AJuujarvi I don't know which version it is, but it's fine with the current experimental.

Symptoms
As of the May 3rd super skunk update the game can no longer connect to steam on startup. A message stating "This game requires you to be logged into Steam while playing. Try restarting Steam if necessary." pops up with an exit game button. The issue has an open discussion on the steam community forum here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/843380/discussions/0/1647665620928455381/
A developer commented "I'm not sure we changed anything that would specifically break Proton (not that we officially support Proton), but we did update the Steamworks .Net SDK to do some family share checks, since some free edition users were running into issues." which may help narrow the issues source. I'm including the steamworks.net version file in case it's related.

Always happens after games initial splash screen.
