Try the latest Proton 4.2-9. The game is playable with this version
Not for me it doesnt. Just tried, same error - black screen in the movies starting the level and then a hang that I have to reset my PC for. Just tested it a min ago
Wanted to update this, with the NO_ESYNC command at some point this started to work for me, though I am not sure when it was fixed. So everything is fine, save for the black movies, with esync on. I'll keep an eye on for any further changes.
Works great out of the box.
Hello, is anyone seeing an issue with this game and Proton 5.0 that would block it from being whitelisted? In particular, are the previously mentioned in-game videos now working as expected?
@shoober420, there are a lot of access violations in your log which hints something is unhealthy:
grep "raise_exception code=c0000005" steam-2630.log | wc -l
353

Hi, I just fired this up to test. There is a major improvement - in game videos now work with sound. However, I disagree with the whitelisting because for me, without the esync off flag, the game hard locks up - and I have to restart my computer - unless I turn off esync.
But once esync is disabled, the game does appear perfect now. the black movies was the big issue before. Though I did not test beyond that.
Call of Duty 2 Freeze when try to load a save (Proton 10.x)
Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9482.

Name of the game with compatibility issues:
Call of Duty 2
Steam AppID of the game:
2630
GPU:
AMD APU (Steam Deck) – RDNA2
Video driver version:
Mesa 24 (Steam Deck, up to date)
Kernel version:
SteamOS kernel 3.7.8 (latest stable at time of testing)
Proton version:
Proton 10.x, Proton Experimental (issue present)
GE-Proton 8.32 (works correctly)
The game launches and missions start normally.
Saving during a mission also appears to work correctly.
However, after exiting the game and restarting it, attempting to resume from any save (autosave, manual save, or quicksave) causes a hard freeze during the loading screen. The game does not crash or produce any error message and must be force-closed.
Additional observations:
Version comparison:
This suggests a regression introduced in newer Proton versions.
The issue occurs every time.
Hello @TedMosly, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please note how the game behaves with Proton 9.0 to narrow the time frame of the regression.
Work around is to force Wayland w/ Proton GE or CachyOS Proton.
Note: Vdeo is of me jiggling my mouse up and down very rapidly however the cursor is slowly migrating up and to the left corner of my screen.

Symptoms
Movies arent visible. You can hear them but cannot see them. Some people are able to get the game to launch, but it almost never works for me. Instead after skipping the (not visible) movies, I get a black screen and it hangs. I have to hard reset my computer.
