steam play doesn't work, if i start it, it shows up on my display not on my steam play device...
The screen/window behaviour appears to have changed. The mouse pointer not being visible when alt+tabbing has been fixed.
Now there is a new minor issue, if game is set to fullscreen, alt+tab to desktop, then alt+tab back into the game, the game thinks it is now windowed (not sure if this is a bug with Proton or the actual game)

The game starts but gamepad is not working. Pressing buttons and moving sticks gives no reaction in the game menu.
The gamepad is working in other games, including via Proton.
Start the game and try interacting with the game menu via a gamepad.
Also, the game crashes when loading the second chapter.
Looks like the crash was due to insufficient VRAM. Which is quite surprising given that RTX 2080 Ti has 11 GiB of VRAM.
I was able to work around the crash by reducing anti-aliasing level in the game settings.
The game freezes at times for me (GTX 970, i5 760). Seems to happen when you're turning corners, so maybe it's tripping over itself while shuffling data around.

Re-test Compatibility Report
Game works perfectly, the only issue I'm still seeing is the same as in my previous report about alt-tab switching between desktop and fullscreen.
To reproduce:
Perhaps this is a bug with the game in the first place, anyone who still has a Windows installation maybe can try it.
Controller doesn't work for me either, it is shown in the settings menu I can select it but it doesn't work, and when I go back in the settings the keyboard is still selected.
Gamepad Marvo G-006, works fine with other games on Proton and native games.

Game starts but on the title screen (with all the rats), where it says "press any key", after pressing any key the game crashes to desktop.
Hello @Martin-DAN, the Proton log you attached is from running the game with Proton 5.0. Please verify that you have configured the game to run with the Proton version you intended and share a newer Proton log.

Anyone ever found a fix for this still seems to be an issue
couldn't reproduce the game crash, @tbbkitty could you upload logs? Add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game launch parameter and upload the resulting file steam-752590.log which will appear in your home folder.
As for controller compatibility, I just tried dualshock 4, dual sense and 8bitdo pro 2 (xinput an switch mode) over bluetooth, and they all worked as expected, with steam input enabled.

Happens on me too, but on me at some point it turns into full unplayable deadlock state, i have to force stop the game process and lose the most progress. i turned off as much effects as possible in game config, used Fsync instead of NTsync, tried -dx12/-dx11/-vulkan as well, updating kernel, and reboot, still the same

Update of it: I kinda found a work around of this, i tried opening another "dummy" game (in this case Dying Light 1. eats 1GB VRAM, 1.5GB RAM, and 50% CPU), both APT:I and "dummy" game ran in windowed mode, it lasts longer! I quit the fake game and then the problem comes back
