Just to update: intro video starts playing with Proton experimental, but at the end of the intro game is stuck. One frame of the video stays on screen but game does not respond to buttons. So, there is progress but it isn't perfect yet.
Intro plays after selecting a new game, selecting character and watching a few short pieces (text and graphics).

Current version on Steam Deck proceeds throught the intro video so it doesn't get "stuck" (hanging) any more. There's some glitches in video (there's "intentional" stylistic and unintentional glitches) so some slight places to improve but game is playable now.
