Hello @FurtadoPires, in general Proton logs compress well and you can attach archives if you feel like directly adding it to this issue report.
@kisak-valve Here's the compressed log file, since the uncompressed version is almost 40 Mbps
steam-13200.log.tar.gz
Looks like its related to DirectMusic
fixme:dmime:IDirectMusicPerformance8Impl_CreateStandardAudioPath
which is nothing new for Wine:
You need to have a valid sound driver else the DirectMusic init will failed (and U2 too).

Here its:
fixme:dmime:IDirectMusic...
{ raise_exception... }_____loop causing excessive file size
{ dump_exception... }
Also noted in the Wine links, Protondb also notes someone using Proton, who notes "Removing the *.con files from the "/steamapps/common/Unreal II The Awakening/Music/" folder helps to get it run."
(where "$HOME/PortProton/prefixes/UNREAL2" - is Your folder of Unreal 2 prefix. If You
Unreal 2 prefix in other folder, type your other path)
libraries: ‘dsound" (builtin), ‘"dmband’, "dmime’, ‘"dmloader’, ‘dmstyle’, ‘dmsynth’,
‘dmusic’ - all of tese librarie to(native)
In folder where You installed Unreal 2 (In my case "/home/user/Unreal 2/" open in subfolder System file Unreal2.ini in text editor, and add to block [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem] lines:
UseDirectMusic=True
UseDigitalMusic=True
if they are not there yet, and if these parameters with different values are there, replace them with the ones I specified
Now you need to set game launch through the forced compatibility tool GE-Proton10-34 , In any case, I use this version, you can probably use any GE-Proton10 instead
Set Launch Options:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
And the game will now start with music.
My system:
GPU: [AMD/ATI] Navi 14 [Radeon RX 5500/5500M /
Pro 5300/5300M/5500M] driver: amdgpu v: kernel
Video Driver: AMD AMD Radeon Graphics (radeonsi, renoir, ACO, DRM 3.64, 7.0.10-1-MANJARO)
System: Manjaro Linux
Kernel: 7.0.10-1-MANJARO
I have only tried this method of launching the game on this system, but if it works for other people and is useful, I ask the Administrators to add this report to Protondb
Unreal II: The Awakening (13200) - Missing menu and gameplay music
Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10035.
@CrossLTG posted on 2026-08-03T19:33:30:
Music is missing from the main menu and during normal gameplay.
Dialogue and sound effects work correctly. Music in the opening cinematic also
plays correctly, but the main-menu music and dynamic gameplay music do not play.
I progressed through the game to the excavation mission where the first artifact
is discovered. No gameplay music played before, during, or after discovering the
artifact.
This was reproduced using Proton Experimental without Protontricks or Winetricks
DirectMusic components.
Launch options used:
PROTON_LOG=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
The d3d8=n,b override is required for rendering compatibility and is unrelated
to the audio system.
The Proton log shows that builtin DirectMusic components are loaded, including
dmloader.dll, dmusic.dll, dmime.dll, dmsynth.dll, dsound.dll, and
dmscript.dll.
During DirectMusic initialization, the log contains:
fixme:dmime:IDirectMusicAudioPathImpl_GetObjectInPath (... IID_IDirectMusicGraph ...): stub
This is immediately followed by:
fixme:dmime:performance_SetGraph (...): to check
and the builtin dmscript.dll being loaded.
At the beginning of the excavation mission, Proton initializes DirectMusic again,
creates a standard audio path, connects the synthesizer to DirectSound, and
activates the audio path. However, no gameplay music is produced.
The separate ALAudio/OpenAL audio system works correctly, as dialogue, sound
effects, and opening cinematic music are audible.
The issue does not cause the game to crash. DirectMusic remains active until the
game exits normally.
The generated Proton log is attached to this issue as:
steam-13200(7).log.zip
Install Unreal II: The Awakening from Steam.
Open the game's Properties menu.
Under Compatibility, force the use of Proton Experimental.
Add the following launch options:
PROTON_LOG=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
Launch the game.
Observe that no music plays in the main menu.
Start a new game.
Observe that music plays during the opening cinematic.
Continue into normal gameplay.
Observe that dialogue and sound effects work, but gameplay music is absent.
Continue to the excavation mission where the first artifact is discovered.
Observe that no dynamic music plays before, during, or after discovering the
artifact.
Music should play in the main menu and during normal gameplay, including dynamic
mission music.
Main-menu music and gameplay music are completely absent.
Opening cinematic music, dialogue, and sound effects work correctly.
