Symptoms

The xbox controller doesn't work.

Reproduction

Aamalleo25 2019-08-31 github

I had a similar issue with Dirt Showdown and was able to get the controller working by forcing on the "Steam Input Per-Game Setting" under game properties. This seems to be more of a work around than an actual solution though.

@amalleo25 The frame rates in proton version seems to be worse than native OpenGL version.

Hello @laichiaheng, can you try adding WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi=n" %command% to the game's launch options and see if it has an effect?

Llaichiaheng 2019-11-18 github

@kisak-valve It's loading forever when I try to start a custom event.

Llaichiaheng 2019-11-18 github

@kisak-valve I successfully to get into it by resuming the game, and it hasn't had any issue yet, so maybe it works.
By the way, it didn't have the crashing issue few months ago.

Ddoitsujin 2019-11-18 github

I'm getting a GPU hang with Mesa 19.2.4 but not with AMDVLK, there seems to be a bit of a driver issue.

The game does run without the DXGI override on my end.

Llaichiaheng 2019-11-18 github

@doitsujin How is the performance of AMDVLK by the way? Could someone help me report it to the MESA developers? It doesn't have a handful place to report bugs like proton.

Ddoitsujin 2019-11-18 github

I haven't benchmarked it with amdvlk, but expect it to be unplayable due to stutters.

I'm currently trying to figure out when the mesa issue was introduced, it used to run fine in the past.

@kisak-valve Time to update Proton?

Llaichiaheng 2019-11-22 github

@doitsujin @kisak-valve It's getting worse today, I can't even launch the game.

I need to launch the game with Proton 4.2-9 first, then change it back to 4.11-8

What might cause this?

The online component of the game seems to be not working. I only get "RaceNet refused your connection attempt." when the game tries to connect.

Got the same prompt over and over. No matter if I use the native or proton version of the game. Both proton 7.0 and 6.3 cant connect to Racenet.

I looked into this issue a bit, and here's what I found:

  • Both Dirt Rally (310560) and Dirt Rally 2.0 (690790) attempt to connect to prod.egonet.codemasters.com which has the IP 94.75.196.235
  • both games first run into 02a8:trace:winsock:connect failed, status 0xc00000a3. but 2.0 does something that allows it to connect regardless
    logs attached
    steam-310560.log
    steam-690790.log

Both games run with Proton Experimental bleeding-edge branch, and I used WINEDEBUG=+seh,+winhttp,+winsock,+wininet PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to generate the logs.

Ggofman 2023-12-02 github

This should hopefully work with the just updated Experimental ([bleeding-edge] branch). I didn't try anything beyond initial connection, but it should connect to Racenet now.

I used to be able to use latest Proton (in this case, 9.0) with old version of dxvk copied to the game's folder.
Now I can't, it just gets ignored and PROTON_LOG=1 shows the requirement of vulkan 1.3 of dxvk 2.something...
When I try to launch it with an older version of Proton that has an old version of dxvk (Proton 7.0) it just crashes - logs show that wine couldn't start Steam
