Just a small follow-up, this game runs with full functionality on a Tk-Glitch Proton prefix built off of Wine Staging 4.17. So hopefully in time the relevant patches will be merged to Wine and thus to Proton. For those comfortable building a proton_tkg prefix I can confirm the game runs on proton_tkg_4.17.r7.g042a633c
Another follow-up. It is mostly functional on a WINE-Staging based prefix except it doesn't play cut-scenes. These are very few and far between in the game but such as exist don't play. The game doesn't crash but an Alt-Tab out of the game and back in is required to regain mouse cursor functionality within the game engine after. Alt-tab is required after any load or start of the game also to gain mouse focus/functionality.
This is the staging patchset that fixes the menu: https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/tree/master/patches/libs-Unicode_Collation
