Symptoms

Game will launch, and I can hear the main Tripwire logo music. There is a flash of some rendering / initialization of the world but then the screen goes black.

I have tried every proton option, and could not really decipher the debug logs. Maybe someone has ideas?

EDIT: Worth noting that I am playing it on a Valve Index using the latest SteamVR Beta.

Reproduction

Just launch the game.

Mfplat?

The log does hint that Media Foundation is being used, but I'm not seeing a clear indicator of what's gone awry in the game.

Mfplat?

Sorry, what does that mean?

Windows Media Foundation. Google it for installing in Linux. If I tell you more, they'll remove my post.

Are there official legal ways to work around WMF? I'd be happy to try any suggestions.

After using a well known script to install needed files for WMF, the game does boot up. However, there's a large amount of re-projection and other performance issues. I will trying a different script tonight (one that includes more files) to see if that makes it better. Will update soon.

Have been trying to mess around with this game after installing the more lightweight script - the performance is awful and there's a lot of things misplaced / messed up. I'm trying the script that is a bit heavier on libraries and includes mfplat...will post back with any updates.

Neither of these seem to make the game "playable". There are still lots and lots of textures missing, or they are not visible to the player. I noticed a considerable performance increase when using the script that includes mfplat.

Forgot to update this. Some of these issues might be related to problems with the game and the Valve Index (which I have / use). Running this game on Windows performs just as poorly as on Steam Proton and is basically unplayable, at least with the Index.

Nothing extracted yet.
