I've tried with Proton 4.2, and Proton-4.21-GE with the same result. It's strange because in WineHQ says that the game work well
I made a lot of tests with Lutris, and with older versions of Wine, the game works flawlessly. The last versions that I tested without problems are lutris-4.16 and lutris-lol-4.17. With newest versions the game crash showing the popup of the first message of this thread.
I also test to open the game with Proton 3.7 and have the same result (error popup) that with the lastest proton version.
I found an FFB issue in this game, in RACE 07 and GT Legends. When you start a race, you have no problems with Force Feedback on the Logitech G29, but if you restart it two times (sometime three), you lost a lot of effects and the steering wheel offers no resistance, unless you countersteer or crash.
To fix this, you must quit the race, go to menu, and load again the race.
I tried it on Windows and this problem don't appear. Seems to be the same problem in all SimBin games with proton.
I played this game again two days ago, and it is not compatible with Proton 8, even deleting its compatdata. You need to use Proton 7 to start it. About the FFB issue, now it has the problem all the time, so you only feel it in crashes, off-track or fast counter-steering. Power & Glory 3 has the same problem.
I suspect that this problem will also be present in other Simbin games (RACE07, GT Legends, GTR... , but I haven't had time to confirm it yet
The FFB issue might be due to Proton sending periodic sine effects with period zero to the Linux driver. Periodic effects with period zero are undefined in the Linux API as far as I know.
Hello @leillo1975, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please share an updated gist of Steam's Runtime Diagnostics (Steam -> Help -> Steam Runtime Diagnostics).

@leillo1975 Unfortunately, we were unable to reproduce the crash on launch with Proton 8.0-x which makes it hard to triage the issue. Could you check if unplugging all peripherals (except probably a mouse to launch the game) fixes the crash? I'm wondering if there is some specific peripheral triggering the issue.
I disconected my wheel, gamepads. Only keyboard and mouse connected, but

The game works for me with Proton 8, but requires some native Direct3D dlls, specifically d3dx9_41.dll and d3dx9_31.dll (use protontricks d3dx9) as Wine/Proton doesn't implement HLSL_IR_LOOP.
Without this override the game will freeze and throw a fatal error at the start of any race.
Doesn't work with d3dx9 either. Game freezes anyway, same error. No force feedback on G27 anyway even when it worked, ages ago. Completely borked, get a windows-only machine and pray.
