Symptoms

Can't run the game without setting a virtual desktop with winecfg.

Reproduction

  1. Launch the game
  2. The game crashes upon the start

Running it using nVidia through PRIME Render Offloading (GeForce GTX 1050 with driver "4.6.0 NVIDIA 440.44") doesn't crash for me. However, the fatal error below persists.

Not sure where to put this since this seems to be a separate problem now. Sorry in advance if this should be somewhere else.

Symptoms

Version 1.54 of the game used to work for Proton 4.11-9 for me (without setting up virtual desktop). Proton 4.11-11 + BR 1.55 (christmas release) now errors with "Fatal Error. Steam must be running to play this game."

Note that this error occured with Proton 4.2-9 + BR 1.54 as well but it worked with 4.11 before.

Reproduction:

  1. Launch the game - game runs and cleanly scales to my monitor without adjusting resolution
  2. Game shows the following message preventing clicking anywhere else

  3. Press OK - Game terminates/closes

Other things I've tried:

  • Deleting existing prefix in $HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1025600
    • Rerunning recreates this directory
    • Note that I notice that .../compatdata/1025600/version is recreated containing the text "4.11-2" instead of 4.11-11 that I expect it to contain
  • Proton 4.2-9 and 3.16-9 - Same error as above
  • Running with nVidia (as stated above) - Same error as above
  • Also sidenote that I'm running my whole system including all steam apps on an ext4 drives. I see others linking steam not found issues to storing things in NTFS

Hi, i have this error, "steam must be running to play this game" since proton 3.7 to 4.2 and the other versions i only have black screen
