Hello @SolusOperandi, in general, we're using one issue per unofficially supported game title, however, this reads like a non-game specific issue, so I'm not going to summary transfer this issue report to #262.
Can you add a note with what filesystem you're using with the secondary Steam Library and where Proton is installed?
My apologies, @kisak-valve. The secondary Steam Library is on an ext4 filesystem. Proton is installed within this secondary library as well.
This seems to be an issue with Flatpak; perhaps I'm wrong here, but the sandboxing is where I'd place the blame. I'd try with a native version of Steam to rule out Flatpak if possible. Also, have you tried other games on the same drive?
I don't own Bayonetta; I just ran across your report on ProtonDB. Kudos to your contributions!
@Myrddin-Wyllt I suspected this as well. One of the first things I did was uninstall the flatpak version of Steam and try the version from the Arch repos instead. I got the same behavior unfortunately. I haven't tried any other games, but I can get around to that later.
I've also had this issue, using the Steam native version using the preinstalled Manjaro version (from the repository).
with proton-5.13-5 you can now add PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command% to the Launch Option. There is no more need to add a D: Drive

Actually, that's not correct. Here's my success story with the current Proton Experimental (which is the same 5.13, basically).
Moved my Bayonetta installation between steam library folders and it stopped working because of it. Tried PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command% which you mentioned, indeed it created an S drive — although not directly at the Bayonetta's folder, but the folder containing it (i.e., at the Steam library folder), instead. Running winecfg with protontricks, then adding a separate drive pointing specifically to the game's folder fixed the issue and I can start Bayonetta normally.
Except for that, I experience performance stutters in-game, irrelevant of graphics settings (but not sure about the source of it).

No log is generated.
Symptoms
When the game is installed to an secondary Steam library it will not launch. A black window appears for some moments then closes.
Reproduction
Download Bayonetta to a non-primary Steam library and attempt to launch the game.
Possible Fixes
I was eventually able to get the game working by using winecfg to add a D:\ drive pointing to the root directory of the game on the secondary filesystem.
