Symptoms

When I launch the game, it hangs on a black screen with Proton 5 and 4. The game works fine with Proton 3.16, 3.7, etc. Also tested with d9vk, without d9vk, with d3dcompiler_42 + d3d9x from Winetricks.

Reproduction

Launch the game with Proton 5 or 4.

LOG:
steam-2100moardang.zip

So this log was so huge, I had to zip it, then use 7z on the zip file, then use zip again on the 7z because GitHub does not support 7z file format upload. Sorry for the odd compression method. So one will have to use 7z to decompress that archive.

Symptoms

Game runs, but it takes a long time for it to actually launch. I thought it froze until it finally started up. Works great besides that.

The game hit access violations and decided it didn't want to quit.

My issue is fixed, I can launch the game now.

Tested with Proton 5.0-5 and DXVK 1.6.

The game works flawlessly on X11 but has serious issues on Wayland. It stutters and has very low FPS on the latter.

Compatibility Report

System Information

  • GPU: RX 580
  • Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 20.2.3-1
  • Kernel version: 5.9
  • Link to full system information report as Gist
  • Proton version: Tried every Proton Version
The strange thing is,that if I put PROTON_LOG=1 in the launch options and start the game, then it doesn't create an .log in my home folder, tried it with Proton 3.x for the .log.
This normally works for other games.

Symptoms

If I click on "Play" there comes that "Preparing to launch" window, then that window disappears and then nothing happens and instead of "Stop" there is "Play" again.
And if I start the game I don't see anything that relates to that game in my system monitor and there is also no program that takes much usage and prevents the game from opening or something.
This normally doesn't happen on any other games.

@Toadfield can you try to delete the compatdata folder (2100) and then relaunch the game?

?ghost 2020-12-30 github

@NerosTie What compatdata foler?
Never heard of that before, where is it located?

If I do that and launch the game,I have the same issue and also it still doesn't create an .log.

To fix a startup issue (out-of-memory with black screen) DXVK should be of version 1.8.x at least, to play it on 5.13 you need protontricks 2100 dxvk with a version of winetricks which supports DXVK 1.8.x verbs (you could check it by running something like winetricks dlls list | grep -Fi dxvk and inspecting the output, for me it was the latest "master" of winetricks from github, installing DXVK 1.8.1, which fixed the issue). I guess this workaround would be unnecessary with upcoming Proton 6.3.
