Symptoms

The game hangs before reaching the main menu with an error dialog in the background that reads "The application has malfunctioned and it will now close."

Adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the game's launch options avoids the issue.

As a side note, there's hints that this game uses CEG, but works in spite of it.

  1. first start with wined3d, to create the config file
  2. then back to dxvk
