Symptoms

Extremely low framerate (on the order of seconds per frame) in some places, perfect 60 FPS in others. Mostly unplayable when the framerate is at its lowest.

Reproduction

This is during general gameplay right out of the gate. There are not many graphics options to experiment with. I have tried all resolutions (640x480 up to 1920x1080) and enabling v-sync which hasn't helped anything.

I also have not tried any other Proton environment options such as forcing Wine D3D over DXVK.

I just tried setting the launch options to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% and it appears to fix pretty much everything. I would guess the issue lies with DXVK.

@alekratz where exactly would I find a place with bad performance, preferably reachable early in the game? So far it's running at a solid 60 FPS here.

Aalekratz 2020-04-26 github

@doitsujin I was running into the lag/bad performance basically from the start. There are a few other reports on ProtonDB that report the same experience as I did, while others seem to be having your experience where it runs perfectly fine without any issues.

I wonder if this is an Nvidia-specific problem; anyone on AMD having the issue?

Seems to play perfectly fine on my 5700 XT

Same problem here (GTX 1070 mobile).

The game was basically unplayable before I added the launch option. Now I can play for a few minutes at a time (sometimes more) but eventually, at some point FPS will suddenly drop to zero until I force-quit the game. The issue seem to happen pretty much at random, it does not seem tied to a particular in-game location.

With PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 I get 20-40 fps. Without it I can get 60 fps however on some maps/missions some asset/render will cause the game to get 1-3fps and basically turn it into a slideshow.

Also GTX 1070 (non mobile). But I am playing on a ultra wide.

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues:Cloudpunk
  • Steam AppID of the game:746850

System Information

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega
  • Driver/LLVM version: VEGA10, DRM 3.40.0, 5.12.9, LLVM 11.0.1
  • Kernel version: 5.12.9
  • Link to full system information report as Gist:

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Game will crash on start when gamepad is connected. Disconnecting gamepad makes game start but obviously gamepad is not available then,
Problem affects plain Wine 6.10 as well. Crash dump points to HID-device caps handling.

Reproduction

  1. Connect gamepad (PS4 controller)
  2. Start game
  3. Observe game crash

Works fine with newer Proton, no longer crashing while gamepad is connected.
