I’m linking https://spcr.netlify.com/search?q=Orcs Must Die! 2, since until now all reports are at least stable.
EDIT: website moved https://www.protondb.com/app/201790
The game itself doesn't crash but both me and my wife have experienced irritants during multiplayer.
Issue 1: sometimes the main game screen is black after starting a level. You can see the UI, map etc, but you cannot see where your avatar runs to
Issue 2: Sometimes I have a mouse drift diagonally to the upper left. This causes the avatar to spin uncontrollably until you kill the game
Regression: Game stop working with proton 3.16-4 Beta
steam-201790.log
The game crashed for me when I tried to play Weekly Challenge with mods activated, running the game with mods deactivated & the Weekly Challenge started without fuss.
log from game crash with mods activated steam-201790.log
log from game with mods deactivated (no crash) steam-201790.log
Game crashed right after was started. Also no mods or DLC was installed
P.S. changing steam/system/game language from Russian to English make no sense as it was for https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1314
I have two issues by now:
Hello @basxto, please include known good and regressed proton versions.
when I switch tags and give the window focus again, mouse click won’t work any longer (new)
I originally tested with 3.7-3, this time with 3.16-4.
Now that I think about it, there were further changes, therefore I can’t tell if it’s just proton or not. I changed my gpu from Nvidia GTX 660 to Radeon RX 580 and therefore from nvidia driver to mesa/amdgpu
I will do some further testing and edit here.
Edit:
The mouse issue also appears with 3.7-8, which means I can’t tell whether it’s a regression or not.
I have to refocus the game twice for this to occur, I usually did my first refocus for fixing the black screen.
The steam overlay is affected as well. It does also occur with steam overlay disabled.
Temporary workaround: open steam overlay, refocus and close steam overlay with shortcut. After this mouse works again.
I also have different kernel and X.org versions now.
Steam System Information
Looks like working. But the mouse keep moving on the top left corner of the screen
@edward81 Do you have a gamepad connected? A faulty gamepad configuration could cause this, since the left analogue stick moves the mouse in the main menu.
@basxto no. I also tried different mouse and the drift persist. Someone on protondb has said that plugging some controller fix stop the movement. I tried plugging the steamController without luck.
I get random crashes to desktop. Only when the game is running, not so far during menu screens.
Some levels can be completed without issue but others can be difficult to pass due to crashes.

I'm only getting a black screen with recent Proton versions unless I manually install native d3dx9 DLLs into the prefix. Regression?
Hello @aufkrawall, what's the most recent Proton version you know works without a workaround?
Please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the issue, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.
Turns out only Proton Experimental is affected, it works with 6.3-7. I think there is an issue with Experimental for it to install d3dx9 successfully into the prefix, as it works when I let 6.3-7 create a fresh prefix and then switch to Experimental. It doesn't work when I let Experimental create a fresh prefix.
For whatever reason, PROTON_LOG=1 doesn't produce any file output.
@kisak-valve I've managed to create a log. The prefix is freshly created by Proton Experimental and the game window shows only a black screen accordingly:
steam-201790.log
Edit: System specs: https://gist.github.com/aufkrawall/da7fe4421406a7a6164bd55c084cce8d
@aufkrawall could you also upload a log of the game working correctly on 6.3-7 for comparison?
@aufkrawall I think this may be related to the cutting-edge kernel you're using. Can you try setting WINE_DISABLE_KERNEL_WRITEWATCH=1 with Proton Experimental and a fresh prefix and see if that helps?
The issue also occurs with the regular 5.14.11.arch1-1 kernel shipped by Arch. WINE_DISABLE_KERNEL_WRITEWATCH=1 does not help.
Here is a log with a fresh prefix and 6.3-7 where it successfully installs d3d9x and the game thus renders correctly:
steam-201790.log
The issue is still unchanged with Proton Experimental as of today.
@aufkrawall Could you try the 6.3-8 rc? If you go to the "Properties" window for Proton 6.3 there is a Beta drop-down option called "proton-6.3-8-rc".
It is not affected.
I get a black screen with only my cursor visible on both Proton Experimental and Proton 6.3-8.
With Proton 5.13-6, it works correctly.
Hello @Compizfox, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.
Hi @kisak-valve,
That's weird. Suddenly I can't reproduce it. It now works fine with both Proton Experimental and 6.3-8.
Sorry to bother you.
Had the d3d9x issue with Proton 6.3-8 on a completely different system (also Arch, but e.g. Intel IGP). Something might be potentially unreliable with the way how Proton installs/registers those files in a prefix.
It worked after doing it manually via protontricks.
I also get a black screen with only the cursor visible. The game however seems responsive (you can still click on the menu buttons although you don't see them) and there is music in the background.
There is a temporary workaround however. Installing the DirectX 9 dependencies via protontricks does resolve the issue and the game works flawlessly.
Edit:
Here's my system specs if it helps.
The issue seems to be fixed, either in Proton or some shared part like runtime/pressure vessel. At least I can't reproduce anymore with both 7.0-1 and recent Experimental.
The source of the problem for bacl screen for now is that steam for some reason does not install directx and vcredist. you can install them manually into protonprefix for that game and then game run smoothly
Good day. The game appears to be crashing as soon as its launched. I'm attaching the Proton logs. Any help is appreciated.
Hello @KPull, your log is consistent with #6262. Please check if you've opted into Steam's client beta and if that is true, either opt out of the beta or test disabling Steam's shader pre-caching subsystem.
@kisak-valve Thanks a lot! Opting out of the Steam beta client did indeed resolve the issue.

Hello @Shannibelle, looking your Proton log, DXVK is failing to initialize, and looking at your system information, your NVIDIA proprietary driver install is missing the video driver's 32 bit userspace libraries. This leaves you with no usable 32 bit Vulkan render path.
Install the lib32-nvidia-utils system package and retest.
There is no longer a lib32-nvidia-utils package but there is a beta for 535.98 so I'll give that a try.
https://archlinux.org/packages/multilib/x86_64/lib32-nvidia-utils/ doesn't look like a phantom package?

When I don’t minimize steam client after starting the game, I have to manually refocus the game window for it to start properly. I think that is an issue related to tiling / awesome.
Played story and endless mode for 3h, everything else runs flawless.
