Symptoms

Like all other EA-published titles I've tried since the inclusion of their former Origin-exclusives, this game seems to install correctly, but after the Origin thin client displays, it throws the error message about being unable to install the game in the specified folder, followed by another error window stating "We are unable to connect to EA servers to activate Dead Space 3 on this computer using your account. Please try again later." Clicking the "Exit" button on the window causes the game to exit.

Reproduction

This happens each time the game is installed and executed from Steam.

Since my initial report, I've tried resolving some issues within the steam-1238060.log by installing several qt5-related packages, as well as the winbind package from the Debian repository. None of this has worked, but here is an updated steam-1238060.log file - perhaps this will shed some new light on the issue.

Check the comment on ProtonDB and try this :
sudo chmod -R 555 ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1238000/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application\ Data/Origin

Hey @Odelpasso, thank you for reaching out. I tried what you suggested, but unfortunately it didn't work. I'm still greeted with the same error window as before, shown below:

This is the same error window I get when trying to launch other EA/Origin games as well, including Titanfall 2.

The following line from my steam-1238060.log file seems telling:

5417.663:0100:0104:warn:seh:OutputDebugStringA "QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::userConnectionStateChanged(bool, Origin::Services::Session::SessionRef) to Origin::Services::HttpServiceResponse::onConnectionStateChanged(bool, Origin::Services::Session::SessionRef)\n"

I'm not sure how to properly read the stack traces from these logs, but it looks like Origin is being refused a connection to EA's servers. This line is found several times throughout the log. I'm not sure what to do with it though.

launch with proton 7.0-6 but not with Experimental, 8.0-2 or GE-8.3=>EA app crash and game go on "not run" state

PPatola 2025-12-05 github

Game does not seem to work currently. Tried several proton versions (removing the prefix between attempts) and the result is always the same: the EA App briefly calls the game and it crashes.

Here is the log of an attempt using Proton 10.0-3:

Deadspace 3 (via EA Launcher): Screen Graphical Issues During Game when Using " X as Mouse" X = Gyro or Joysticks

Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/2566.
@areusche posted on 2026-07-04T19:58:21:

Your system information

  • Steam client version: 1783028805
  • SteamOS version: 3.8.21
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: NO
  • Opted into SteamOS beta?: YES
  • Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: YES

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When playing Deadspace 3, I am receiving graphical glitches when the game graphics are set to 1920x1080 120hz and utilizing Gyro or track pads (steam controller 1" when the game settings are set to _"x as Mouse" _. Using this configuration creates graphical glithces on my Xbox Ally X screen's or on an external monitor.

X = Gyro or trackpad

Settings Used to Recreate Issue Image Image Image Image

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Issue is recreateable on an Xbox Ally X and has not been tested elsewhere due to lack of available hardware.
  2. Set your device up to run the latest release of steam OS on beta branch (3.8.21)
  3. Using the pictures above, set the game to the following graphics settings (high quality, 1920x1080x120hz, high graphcs)
  4. Set the device performance settings to 120HZ Refresh Rate, Disable Frame Limit (ON), Enable VRR.
  5. Using either a steam controller 1,2, OR the Xbox Ally X built in gyro, set the following: Controller Settings -> Right Trackpad -> As Mouse. Gyro -> Behavior = Gyro as Mouse. (set any key to enable gyro)
  6. Play the game and use the trackpads OR gyro.
  7. The bug should be recruitable on the game's launch screen but is most prevalent during game play.

Work Around

Setting the game to VSYNC = ON will stop the issue
