Symptoms: Starting the game with a controller attached lets it get past the initial menu options but when on the begin game menu it doesnt work unless you exit the game and use a keyboard

Reproduction:

Start game (lutris or wine), click new game, select normal mode, controller doesnt work anymore (using either an xbox one s controller or ps4 controller)
