I also suffer from the same issue where the game crashes after the loading screen.

What really weird is that only one person was able to get it to work. I wonder if they have tried to go in-game when they made the report.

Llineber 2018-08-24 github

I get it to load the intro video, can change settings, but as soon as I click to play single player, it crashes.

Fedora 28 / GTX 1060 3g

I’ve tried to change settings to WinXP but it still crashes. I will load winetricks and attempt to get it to work with other settings.

Left 4 Dead Is Broken In Proton (Unplayable)

Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1496.
@Hicks83 posted on 2018-09-17T18:56:35:

Left 4 Dead launches fine and the menu and settings seem to function properly. Whenever joining a game or creating one, the game crashes to desktop during the loading process. This issue has been reported on Stean threads multiple times. Any information on how to resolve the crashing would be appreciated.

Symptoms

Not sure why this is closed, but I wanted to add the Proton logfile. Issue persists with crashing after loading map 100%.

Hello @tr37ion, this issue report is currently open as indicated directly below the title at the top of the report.

CCuriousTommy 2018-10-13 github

Proton 3.16 doesn't seem to fix the issue.

Sshibotto 2018-11-01 github

Works on my end with Proton 3.16, but the game stutters like hell as with vanilla Wine.

CCuriousTommy 2018-11-03 github

The Proton 3.16-4 update fixed the game from crashing. I wonder if the fix is related to the open source corefonts?

Pportaloffreedom 2018-11-18 github

Managed to make it run, but it will crash on map load if I enable anti-aliasing. With anti-aliasing off it works just fine.

Configuraton:
Archlinux - KDE
nVidia GTX 1080ti - driver 410.73
Steam runtime (not native)
Proton 3.16-4 Beta
