Hello @StarTuz, yes, you've described Denuvo's 5 activations per 24 hour limitation. When that issue clears itself tomorrow, please gather another Proton log with the crash/freeze you are seeing. Also, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Well the log file is an incredible 3.4gb in size, I do think we're getting a repeating events. I took about 3011 lines and created a new log:

steamlog-appid_1282590.log

I already updated my gist report, let me know if you need anything else.

Many thanks.

I don't think this is up to date anymore.
It still won't launch, but I'm getting a "Unable to load library steam_api64.dll" instead.

Dderjokerx 2021-09-24 github

Hello fiws,

please copy the 'steam_api64.dll' file from

Steam/steamapps/common/Train Sim World 2/WindowsNoEditor/TS2Prototype/Binaries/Win64/
to:
Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1282590/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/

..then should be worked.

Greetings,
joker

Ffiws 2021-09-24 github

Thanks @derjokerx ! I knew about that workaround, but this should still be fixed somewhere no?
Can't expect steam deck users to do that

Ssherbey 2021-11-10 github

Hello fiws,

please copy the 'steam_api64.dll' file from

Steam/steamapps/common/Train Sim World 2/WindowsNoEditor/TS2Prototype/Binaries/Win64/ to: Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1282590/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/

..then should be worked.

Greetings, joker

Cheers Joker! This is still an issue, your fix works

RRetrodynen 2021-12-20 · hidden on GitHub github

I tried the fix mentioned above but now the game just stops after 10ish seconds after clicking Play in steam, no window is shown or anything. :(

Am using Proton Experimental

RRetrodynen 2021-12-20 github

Nevermind, it works! My OS has a hardened kernel option and switching back to the normal kernel build made it work fine.

What exactly did you change and which OS are you on? Copying steam_app64.dll didn't do the trick for me.

I use NixOS

And what did you change? Might give it a shot if it's possible on Mint 20.3

RRetrodynen 2021-12-28 · hidden on GitHub github

I changed the NixOS-specific option of
https://search.nixos.org/options?channel=unstable&show=boot.kernelPackages&from=0&size=50&sort=relevance&type=packages&query=kernel

back to the default.

I see, I don't think such thing exists on Mint. I will keep trying different things and if I find a solution I will share here.

Eeramsorgr 2021-12-29 github

Managed to get it working by moving the game to my Linux SSD instead of an HDD (NTFS) and used Proton Experimental. Stable FPS, just a few physic slowdowns here and there but nothing too major.

steam-1282590.log

Symptoms

Game returns error saying VisualStudio C++ and DirectX runtimes are missing.
Log reveals that VS C++ DLLs can't be found as the program searches for the files in uppercase while the actual DLL files are lowercase. Renaming the files to uppercase fixes VS C++ Runtime not being found but I'm unable to find DirectX errors in the log.

Reproduction

  1. Download TSW2
  2. Start the game
Aalasky17 2022-03-02 github

@Carlgo11 I am getting the opposite behavior that you reported. The game is working with a fresh install on 7.0-1 and crashing with an error about being unable to load library steam_api64.dll on 6.3-8. Did you do any workarounds on 6.3-8 to get it working? I suspect that if you deleted (or moved) your old prefix, you would not get that error with a fresh prefix on 7.0-1. If you wouldn't mind temporarily moving ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1282590 to 1282590.bak to see if a fresh prefix fixes the failure, that would be great. I'm not sure if Train Sim World 2 stores anything important in the prefix, so I wouldn't recommend deleting it completely since you got the game working again :)

CCarlgo11 2022-03-02 github

@alasky17 I haven't done anything special on pre-7.1 proton. On 7.1 I did remove the game folder in compatdata but it didn't work. Not even after a fresh reinstallation.

I did however add nocase to the drive in /etc/fstab which fixed the problem on proton 7.1 and experimental.

I'm a bit surprised that proton/wine doesn't automatically handle case sensitivity though. Seems like something which would be a common problem as Windows is case insensitive whilst Linux isn't.

Iivyl 2022-03-08 github

Hi, @Carlgo11.

We have logic to handle case sensitivity and to detect and leverage insensitivity when possible. See https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/blob/proton_7.0/dlls/ntdll/unix/file.c#L1036 and the following functions.

This most likely means that something in your setup tricks the check into thinking you are running case insensitive filesystem while you are not.

Can you elaborate a bit on what FS you are using for your Steam Library and how it was created? Can you share output of dumpe2fs or a similar tool for you particular FS?
