Hello @moorejoshua96, it takes multiple restarts to stabilize the system? Blind guess that this is a video driver issue and the video card is being put into an unexpected state that persists after a soft reboot. It may be worthwhile to also mention this issue to your video driver vendor.
Thanks for the reply @kisak-valve I tested on the included open source driver and the proprietary amd drivers provided by olibaf's ppa and still the same result.I have yet to have time to look at the change log between the two different versions but I suspect i will find the culprit there.Are there logs i could pull after recreating the issue maybe other than my syslogs?Thanks

Computer Specs:
Amd ryzen 5 3600
32 gb ddr4 ram
amd 5700xt 8gb
asus strix mobo
Ubuntu 20.10 fresh install
Tested with Resident evil 2 and hollow knight
When using proton 5.13-1 the games would make my computer go to a black screen and then restart sometimes multiple times.
Switched back to proton 5.09 and the games worked without restarting or any other issues.
