I've also tested an Xbox controller with the same issue.
The game seems to detect the controllers, by showing controller icons in the main menu, but no controller input is registered.
I've got my controller to work, which seems to be a kernel issue, not a game issue:
My system has an "Asrock LED controller", which is detected as a controller/joystick device and blocks the actual controller from working.
The issue is described here: Asrock LED controller issue
The workaround mentioned in post 6 works for me.
The game works without issues, so a whitelisting could be done.
Hi guys! I can't run Narita Boy at a Fedora 34. Appears a black window with the message:
Switching to resolution 2560x1080 failed
Screen: DX11 could not switch resolution (2560x1080 fs=1 hz=0)
@GuilhermeTokitaka Any more information like a steam-*.log and full system information from the steam client?
Do you have a dual screen setup?
I get this log:
steam-1069530.log
Hope you can open it, otherwise I can paste all the file here.
And, no, I dont have dual screen setup.
At others foruns, I read that the games made with Unity don't work fine with steam proton and the same issue I'm having now will happen.
Do you use wayland or xorg?
Maybe you could provide your Steam "System Information" (can be found under "Help")?
ProtonDB doesn't list any issues with Narita Boy, so I'm out of ideas here.
Here is an old issue which sounds identical to your problem: #905

With the link[ #905](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/905) I saw the command "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%", pasted and the game finaly run til the splash screens and then crashed with no message. It's a begining....
Hello @GuilhermeTokitaka, Driver: Mesa/X.org llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.1, 128 bits) in your system information is a key detail. That is mesa's faster software renderer, and tells us that your system is not configured to use a real video card.
I did a wayland tutorial now, and appears i'm useing wayland now. The games is finally running, but with 5fps....
And yeah... continues appears the Driver: Mesa/X.org llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.1, 128 bits)....
I'll see what i need to do to change that

steam-1069530.log
Symptoms
The game works in general, but my controller isn't functioning.
I'm using an old PS3 controller, but this issue is identical on a PS4 controller.
Normally I have to set the game "CONTROLLER" settings to "Disable Steam input". This should make proton to emulate my PS3 controller as a Xbox360 controller and everything should be fine.
With this game, a Xbox360 controller is detected from what is shown in the main menu, but no input works.
I installed this game in Lutris with their lutris-6.0 wine version and controls work as they should.
Reproduction
This issue happens each time I launch the game as described under "Symptoms".
It would be interesting to know if users with other controllers have the same issue or if this is related to my PS3 controller.
