Proton 5.0-10 does not crash. The attic loads up.

@jape42 Would you mind uploading a save file from just before the crash point to make investigation easier?

Unfortunately the game only keeps one save and it no longer crashes for me using the current save. I checked the steam cloud and there was only the current save there too.

I was able to move past the start of the attic section using proton 5.0-10.

@jape42 Dang it! Thank you for checking!

I played the whole game in Proton 7 and it didn't crash, but there were what I believe video decoding bugs. Some scenes played in a way that looked like the wrong aspect ratio (too wide and mostly offscreen) and were mostly offwhite, with hints of violet/blue and saturated yellow, which were presumably just in the wrong colorspace or similar. There are only two of these in the game though, one in the Curiosity Room when you insert the eyeball into the mannequin, and one when you beat the game.

Edit: Confirmed, they are videos. Each video seems to have two versions:

Stream #0:0(und): Video: h264 (Main) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p(tv, bt709), 2560x1440 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 7273 kb/s, 24 fps, 24 tbr, 90k tbn, 180k tbc (default)
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p(tv, bt709), 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 2751 kb/s, 24 fps, 24 tbr, 24k tbn, 48 tbc (default)

Workaround from Discord: Set the game's launch options to WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%

I've attached a save right before the scene with the eyeball. To activate it, click the lens on the right, double click on the sigil, double click on the mannequin in the corner, drag the eyeball into the socket, click on the lens again, then double click on the floating shards.
