Symptoms

Game launches in "insecure" mode, and the -secure flag has no effect.

Reproduction

  1. Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool on Steam and select a Proton version (6.3-6), so the Windows version of the game is run instead of native.
  2. Start the game.
  3. Find a VAC protected game in the server browser.
  4. Attempt to join the server.

I realize the game can be run fine as Linux native, as I have been doing for years.
However I was interested how this game would run using Proton instead.
There have been random cases where games have run better via Proton than native on my system, and I wondered if this game would be the same.

iMac running Linux Ubuntu via Proton compatibility layer

  • GPU: Nvidia/Intel/AMD: Stock Nvidia I think, but the game ran fine on the iOS prior to the update which forced me to format the iMac for Linux.

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I was using a outdated iOS that was forced out because of the latest CS Source update. After contacting Steam support I was encouraged to switch to a Linux software. After the installation of Ubuntu Linux and Proton compatibility layer the game will appear to launch but crashes after it says its running. I changed the Source settings compatibility to use Proton same as the Counterstrike Source compatibility to force use Proton. The game still doesn't launch. What am I missing? On a separate note; the Linux software is SO much more responsive than my old IOS software. But it would be cool to play some CS Source ;-). Thank you for your help.
